Government Confirms Covert Airspace Strategy
Somaliland's Ministry of the Presidency, led by Khadar Xuseen Cabdi, confirmed that the government is conducting diplomatic and other secret efforts to take over the management of its airspace. The minister described the approach as a carefully managed, confidential operation designed to navigate complex challenges without public exposure.
He added that President Muse Bihi Abdi Cirro manages foreign policy through a method he characterised as a 'secret step-by-step approach', with airspace management being one of the key areas under this strategy. The government insists that travellers to Somaliland cannot be forced to obtain an entry visa from Somalia, marking a significant shift in its aviation policy.
Transport Minister Fu'aad Axmed Nuur Leads Efforts from the US
Fu'aad Axmed Nuur, the Minister of Transport and Airport Development, is currently based in the United States, where he continues to spearhead the aviation negotiations. The Ministry of the Presidency expressed confidence that he would achieve success in overcoming the obstacles facing Somaliland's airspace management, praising his 'wise and secret' handling of the task.
The minister also drew attention to the recent recognition granted by Israel to Somaliland's government, noting that some diplomatic steps were not publicly disclosed until after achieving their intended results. He compared the situation to the intelligence operations that followed Israel's recognition, suggesting a pattern of behind-the-scenes manoeuvring.
Somalia's e-Visa System Faces Potential Removal
Somaliland has stated its intention to remove the electronic visa system (e-Visa) of Somalia for people travelling to Hargeysa, asserting that its citizens should not be compelled to seek entry visas through Mogadishu. This move is part of a broader effort to assert full sovereignty over its airspace and immigration procedures.
The government claims it has abandoned the idea of requiring entry visas from Somalia, positioning this as a key element of its diplomatic campaign. The announcement comes amid growing international attention to Somaliland's push for greater recognition and control over its borders and aviation sector.
