Somali Police Officers Graduate with Master’s Degrees from Russian Academy
Mogadishu – Four officers from the Somali Police Force recently graduated with master’s degrees from Russia’s Academy of Administration under the Ministry of Interior, marking a significant milestone in the revival of bilateral security cooperation between Mogadishu and Moscow.
The officers specialised in General Administration and Strategic Planning, equipping them with expertise crucial for effective leadership, improved management, policy setting, and enhanced police service quality.
The graduation aligns with Somalia’s pursuit of a diversified foreign policy, strengthening international partnerships for security training with various countries. Russia, on the other hand, is actively expanding its diplomatic and security engagement across Africa.
The ceremony held at the Academy of Administration in Russia saw the four officers receive their qualifications. Somali police authorities expressed optimism that the acquired knowledge and experience would bolster leadership and institutional capacity within the force.
Government officials lauded the graduation as a testament to the renewed cooperation between Somalia and Russia, highlighting it as the first such graduation from a Russian institution in over four decades.
The officers are expected to apply their expertise in strategic planning, public administration, and institutional management as Somalia continues its reforms to modernise its security sector.
Overseas professional education plays a vital role in developing leadership within Somali security institutions, complementing ongoing domestic reforms and international support for improved policing, governance, and public safety.
