Ujeeddada iyo shaqada Task Force Iron Gate
Task Force Iron Gate waxaa maamuli doona 20 qof oo rayid iyo millatari ah, waxaana xarunteedu tahay Tampa, Florida. Unuggan wuxuu la kaashan doonaa hay'adaha kale ee dowladda Maraykanka si looga hortago dhaqdhaqaaqa nidaamyada hubka casriga ah, tignoolajiyada laba-geesoodka ah, agabka la xayiray iyo ilaha dakhliga sharci-darrada ah ee ka gudbaya xuduudaha dhulka Iran iyo Badda Caspian, sida ay CENTCOM sheegtay.
Taliyaha CENTCOM Admiral Brad Cooper ayaa sheegay in Task Force Iron Gate uu xoojin doono guusha xannibaadda adag ee Maraykanku ku hayo Iran badda. Michael Mulroy, oo hore u ahaan jiray ku-xigeenka wasiirka gaashaandhigga Maraykanka ee Bariga Dhexe, ayaa Al Jazeera u sheegay in unuggan uu doonayo inuu ogaado halka nidaamyada hubka soo galaan, sida loo joojin karo iyo sida Iran u gaadiidiso tamartaheeda.
Jawaabta IRGC iyo falanqaynta khubarada
Afhayeenka IRGC Sardar Mohebi ayaa ku tilmaamay qorshaha millatari ee Maraykanka inuu yahay hadal-madhan, sida ay warbaahinta Fars soo werisay. Wuxuu yiri Maraykanku ma gaari karo hadafkiisa, kaas oo ah inuu cadaadis dhaqaale oo adag saaro si uu u burburiyo dhaqaalaha Iran.
Mahjoob Zweiri, oo ah borofisar taariikh iyo siyaasad casri ah oo ka tirsan Jaamacadda Qatar, ayaa Al Jazeera u sheegay in warbixinnada ku saabsan qalabka millatari ee laga soo dejiyo Ruushka ay tahay walaac dhab ah u leh Maraykanka, isla markaana unuggan uu sababi karo isku dhac la xiriira Ruushka. Rami Khouri, oo ah cilmi-baare ku takhasusay siyaasadda dadweynaha oo ka tirsan Jaamacadda Maraykanka ee Beirut, ayaa sheegay in Maraykanku aanu si dhab ah u garanayn waxa uu ka yeelo Iran, isla markaana uu wax ku qabanayo si degdeg ah.
Caqabadaha iyo aragtida Joe Kent
Khouri ayaa sheegay in Iran ay leedahay shabakad ballaaran oo xiriir la leh ganacsatada iyo la-hawlgalayaasha guud ahaan gobolka, taas oo ka dhigaysa mid aan suurtagal ahayn in Maraykanku xiro dhammaan. Joe Kent, oo ahaa kaaliyihii hore ee Trump iyo sarkaal sare oo ka tirsanaa la-dagaallanka argagixisada, ayaa sheegay in unuggan cusub uu yahay isku day CENTCOM ay ku dooneyso inay carqaladeyso dadaallada diblomaasiyadeed ee socda, isagoo ku qoray X in CENTCOM ay ku casuumeen Iran inay kordhiso xiisadda inta madaxweyne ku-xigeenka uu la xaajoonayo Iran.
CENTCOM says the new Tampa-based unit will coordinate efforts against weapons transfers and sanctioned materials, while Iranian and US analysts question its reach.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday the creation of Task Force Iron Gate, a unit aimed at preventing Iran from using ground routes and the Caspian Sea to transport advanced weapons and other materials, CENTCOM said.
What the Task Force Will Do
Based in Tampa, Florida, Task Force Iron Gate will be run by 20 civilian and military personnel. CENTCOM said the unit will coordinate with other US government agencies on preventing the movement of advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials and illegal revenue streams across Iran's land borders and the Caspian Sea. CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the task force will reinforce "the success of our ironclad blockade against Iran at sea".
Michael Mulroy, a former US deputy assistant defence secretary for the Middle East, told Al Jazeera the unit will aim to find out where "weapons systems are coming in, how they could potentially be cut off" and how "Iran is transporting its energy". He said that if US President Donald Trump ramps up the war, attacks would likely target a "series of targets" focused on economic and infrastructure sites.
Iran Rejects the Plan
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) dismissed the US military plan as "just a play on words", according to IRGC spokesman Sardar Mohebi as reported by the Fars news agency. "The Americans cannot achieve their goal through this, which is to apply severe economic pressure to collapse and disintegrate the Iranian economy," Mohebi said.
Analysts Question Reach and Motives
Mahjoob Zweiri, a professor of contemporary history and politics at Qatar University, told Al Jazeera that reports of military equipment imported via Russia are a "real concern" for the United States and that the task force could "cause a confrontation with Russia". He said the US has no military presence on the Caspian Sea and that neighbouring countries like Azerbaijan or Armenia are not collaborating because they do not want to upset Russia.
Rami Khouri, a public policy fellow at the American University of Beirut, said: "The US really doesn't quite know what to do about Iran as we've seen, and it's doing things off the cuff". He said Iran has an enormous web of contacts with traders and partners across the region, making it virtually impossible for the US to seal off every one. Former Trump aide Joe Kent, who resigned in March, posted on X: "This is CENTCOM inviting Iran to escalate while the vice president is attempting to negotiate with the Iranians."
