Over 40 Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Goobo, Hiiraan

Somali Forces Eliminate Dozens of Al-Shabaab Militants in Air Strike

The Somali National Armed Forces, supported by international partners, concluded a coordinated airstrike in the village of Goobo, Hiiraan region, late Monday night, resulting in the death of over 40 Al-Shabaab militants and injuring 12 others.

The strike targeted a regrouping point approximately 10 kilometers north of the Mahaas District, where militants had retreated following previous clashes in Sullaay and Waab-weyn.

The federal forces aim to disrupt the insurgent group’s ability to reorganize and launch counter-offensives in the strategically crucial central region.

The operation also yielded the destruction of a tactical vehicle and numerous defensive fortifications constructed by the militant group.

While government forces report ongoing successes in the field, independently verifying casualties in remote areas poses significant challenges.

Analysts suggest that sustained pressure on Al-Shabaab’s logistical and command structures in central Somalia is significantly weakening their territorial control capabilities.

The Ministry of Defense has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing military strategy, indicating that offensive operations will continue until the militant presence is completely eradicated.

For the residents of Hiiraan, the outcome of these frequent security operations is pivotal to restoring local governance and ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.
