White Sox Land Record-Breaking Draft Pick Roch Cholowsky
Chicago — Roch Cholowsky has officially inked a contract with the Chicago White Sox, receiving a staggering $10.35 million signing bonus after being selected as the top pick in the recent amateur draft.
The coveted top spot carried a slot value of $11,350,600, and Cholowsky’s bonus eclipses previous records set in the draft. Chase Burns and Charlie Condon, both from the Reds and Rockies respectively, previously held the record with a $9.25 million bonus.
The 6-foot-2 shortstop, who celebrated his 21st birthday in April, enjoyed a sensational season at UCLA, hitting .320 with 21 home runs, 60 RBIs and a remarkable 1.088 OPS in just 60 games.
“We were most comfortable with Roch Cholowsky with our first pick, regardless of the signing bonus,” declared White Sox general manager Chris Getz on Saturday.
Throughout his three-year stint at UCLA, Cholowsky accumulated impressive statistics, batting .329 with 52 home runs, 167 RBIs and a 1.072 OPS in 178 games. His remarkable achievements have earned him a prominent place among the school’s career leaders in various offensive categories.
The White Sox believe Cholowsky’s influence will be invaluable to their organization, citing his exceptional talent and leadership qualities.
