EU's Unwavering Stance on Russia's War
EU spokesman Olof Gill stated that the bloc has consistently used G20 meetings since 2022 to condemn Russia's full-scale invasion and call for its end. He emphasized that this approach will persist regardless of who participates in the summit. The EU and three of its member states—France, Germany, and Italy—are all part of the G20 group.
Russia remains a member of the G20 and retains the right to participate in its meetings, according to Gill. However, Ukraine's allies, including France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Canada, have urged Russia's exclusion from the group since the invasion began in February 2022.
US Invites Putin to G20 Summit
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington is inviting Putin to the December G20 summit in Miami, describing it as an opportunity for him to engage with world leaders beyond just President Donald Trump. Rubio expressed hope that Putin would accept the invitation, noting his last visit to the US was in August 2025 for a summit in Anchorage, Alaska.
