Iran Holds Massive Funeral for Slain Supreme Leader

Published:

Iran has begun a seven-day funeral procession for its late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes in February. State media reported large crowds visiting Khamenei’s casket at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran.

The ceremony was delayed due to ‘war conditions’ and ‘the brutal U.S. invasion,’ according to a spokesperson for the funeral preparations. The Iranian regime aims to showcase stability and power through the elaborate funeral.

Foreign delegations and religious leaders attended the ceremony, including Russia’s former president Medvedev and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif. Iranians expressed mixed reactions to Khamenei’s death, with some finding little comfort in his passing.
