Published:

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar (Ali Balcad) says European Union visa-related measures are linked to migration cooperation, not an Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, commonly known as Ali Balcad, has rejected claims that recent discussions surrounding European Union visa restrictions are connected to Somalia’s electronic visa (eVisa) system, describing such claims as misleading and inaccurate.

Wararka Soomaaliya

The Deputy Minister said the measures taken by the European Union are related to migration management, including cooperation on the return of individuals residing illegally in European countries, rather than an evaluation of Somalia’s government systems or administrative performance.

The issue involves the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Deputy Minister Ali Mohamed Omar, the European Union, and Somali citizens and travelers affected by international visa and migration policies.

Other countries facing similar migration-related discussions, including Ethiopia, Iraq, Bangladesh, The Gambia, and Senegal, were also mentioned by the Somali official as examples of nations that have experienced comparable measures or concerns.

Faahfaahinta

In a statement, Ali Balcad defended Somalia’s eVisa system, saying it was introduced as part of efforts to modernize government services, simplify entry procedures, and improve security and efficiency in border management.

He argued that the system was not designed to isolate Somalia but rather to create a more organized and internationally compatible process for travelers entering the country.

The remarks came amid ongoing discussions about European migration policies and concerns surrounding visa cooperation between the European Union and several countries outside Europe.

Saamaynta

The matter affects Somalia’s international travel relations, particularly its engagement with European countries, as well as broader discussions around migration cooperation and border management.

Visa policies have become a key part of international relations, with governments balancing the need to facilitate legal travel while addressing concerns related to irregular migration.

Ali Balcad emphasized that Somalia should approach such challenges through responsible dialogue, institutional strengthening, and continued cooperation with international partners.
