Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has issued a strong warning to opposition politicians and armed forces that he says are being mobilized by Somalia’s Federal Government in parts of Puntland.

Speaking on the security situation, President Deni said the Puntland administration is prepared to respond to any attempt to undermine stability in the region. He stressed that the authorities would act against efforts to disrupt peace and security.
The president also warned against attempts to gain political power through the use of force, saying that leadership cannot be obtained by military means.
“No individual can seize power by force,” he said, adding that Puntland would not accept actions by any person that he believes could jeopardize the interests of the wider community and the region.

The Federal Government of Somalia has not publicly responded to President Deni’s remarks.
