Mogadishu (HOL) – The Turkish Parliament has approved a presidential motion to extend the deployment of Turkish naval forces in the Gulf of Aden, waters off Somalia, the Arabian Sea, and adjacent regions for an additional year, effective February 10.

The extension reaffirms Türkiye’s commitment to addressing maritime threats in the region, including piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism, which pose risks to international peace and stability and impact Türkiye’s national interests.

The motion emphasized the importance of Türkiye’s contribution to international security efforts in protecting maritime navigation and ensuring regional stability.

Türkiye initially authorized the deployment of its naval forces in the region on February 10, 2009, for a one-year mission. Since then, the mandate has been consistently extended to support ongoing anti-piracy and maritime security operations.
