Mogadishu (HOL) – A group of traditional elders on Saturday
called on opposition leaders to participate in the National Consultation Forum
convened by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, aimed at addressing the
country’s pressing political and security challenges.

Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu, the elders
welcomed the President’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of inclusive
dialogue among Somali political stakeholders to reach sustainable solutions to
    the nation’s critical issues.

“We support the President’s call for national dialogue and
urge all political actors, including the opposition, to come to the table,”
said one elder, stressing the need for unity in this pivotal period.

The elders also expressed gratitude to the Somali National
Army and the Ma’awisley community defense forces for their continued fight
against the Al-Shabaab insurgency, urging the public to stand by the forces
    defending the nation.

In addition, they encouraged the Somali public to register
for voting cards in preparation for upcoming local council elections,
highlighting the role of civic participation in building a democratic future.

The National Consultation Conference is scheduled to begin
tomorrow, June 15, bringing together Somali leaders to discuss key national
issues, including the Constitution, electoral process, and the ongoing fight
    against Al-Shabaab.

However, opposition parties have set conditions for their
participation in the talks, raising concerns that the opening of the forum may
    face delays.
