Somalia’s Political Negotiations Make Progress

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali Dhay expressed optimism that a significant breakthrough could soon emerge to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country.

Dhay described the current political environment as challenging, with a deadlock between rival sides. However, he emphasized that the disagreements demonstrate political maturity, with competing parties continuing to pursue dialogue rather than abandoning negotiations.

The foreign minister highlighted the progress made in the internationally mediated political negotiations between the Federal Government and the opposition. He expressed hope that the dialogue would soon deliver a major breakthrough capable of ending the political crisis and paving the way for a political settlement.

Negotiators are currently working to bridge differences over the country’s electoral framework. While both sides have proposed models based on universal suffrage, disagreements remain over the implementation and responsible authorities.

The outcome of the negotiations hangs in the balance, as consensus is needed on outstanding issues. A successful breakthrough would lead to resolving the electoral impasse and facilitating a smoother political transition, while failure to bridge the gap would leave the political uncertainty unresolved.
