Mogadishu (HOL) – The African Union’s Ministerial Committee
on Candidatures held its biannual meeting to discuss and advocate for African
candidates seeking key positions in international organizations in Addis Ababa
on Tuesday.
During the session, members reviewed nominations for
influential roles, including positions within the United Nations Security
Council, UNESCO, and other major international bodies. The meeting also
assessed the implementation of past resolutions and progress on previously
endorsed candidates.
Discussions further focused on ongoing consultations,
particularly in regions where multiple African candidates were vying for the
same positions. Delegates emphasized the importance of consensus and regional
coordination to strengthen Africa’s collective influence.
Somalia had chaired the subcommittee for the past two years,
demonstrating its leadership in continental diplomatic affairs. The Tuesday’s
session marked the conclusion of Somalia’s tenure, reinforcing its commitment
to advancing Africa’s role on the global stage.
