Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali National Army (SNA) forces, in coordination with local militia fighters, killed at least seven Al-Shabaab militants in a targeted operation in the Middle Shabelle region on Wednesday.

The offensive took place in the Abdulle Barbaar area, near the town of Ciid Ciidka in Mahaday district, according to military officials.

Army commander Osman Beerey, who led the operation, confirmed that the troops also seized weapons, motorcycles, and other equipment used by the militants.

“The forces carried out a planned roadside operation targeting Al-Shabaab movements in areas around Abdulle Barbaar and Ciid Ciidka. Seven militants were killed, and we recovered weapons and motorcycles used in their operations,” Beerey said.

The operation is part of counterterrorism operations in Middle Shabelle, where Al-Shabaab recently expanded its activities in rural areas. In response, local defense forces have rapidly organized to support the national military campaign.

The Somali federal government has intensified its operations in the region, launching coordinated ground assaults and airstrikes with support from international allies. The aim is to dislodge Al-Shabaab from remaining strongholds and restore security across key strategic corridors.
