Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali Senator Abdi Hassan Awaale Qeybdiid has accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of unilaterally amending the constitution, warning that Somalia is facing an unprecedented threat to its stability and governance.

In an interview with SMS local television on Sunday, Senator Qeybdiid alleged that Somalia no longer operates under its established constitutional and legal framework but instead under what he described as “Hassan Sheikh’s special constitution.”

“Save the country now; the hope of a state is falling into a well, and the people’s wealth has fallen into the pockets of individuals,” Qeybdiid warned, urging immediate public action to prevent further deterioration.

“I never thought that Somalia was on such a dangerous path, but today, I truly fear for the country’s stability under the current leadership,” he added.

Qeybdiid called on Somali politicians to unite to defend the nation, emphasizing that the country is facing a critical period that demands urgent intervention. He criticized the government’s policies, claiming they threaten Somalia’s existence and jeopardize its future.

The senator urged the Somali Parliament to fulfill its constitutional duties and hold the government accountable for its actions.

His comments come amid ongoing political tensions surrounding Somalia’s electoral process, governance issues, and security challenges.
