Mogadishu (HOL) – Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has strongly condemned the recent attack on Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy in Mogadishu, reaffirming Qatar’s solidarity with Somalia during a phone call with the President on Saturday.

During the conversation, the Qatari leader offered his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed sympathy to the Somali people, wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.

“Qatar stands in full solidarity with Somalia and firmly rejects all forms of violence and terrorism that undermine the security and stability of the Somali people,” Sheikh Tamim said, according to a readout from the Qatari government.

President Mohamud expressed gratitude for Qatar’s continued support and the Amir’s message of compassion and fraternity.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday near El-Gab junction in Mogadishu, killed at least eight people, including journalist Mohamed Abukar Dabashe, who was inside a nearby building that collapsed due to the explosion.

Al-Shabaab, a militant group linked to al-Qaeda and designated as a terrorist organization by the Somali government and international partners, claimed responsibility.

Despite the deadly incident, Somali officials confirmed that President Mohamud was unharmed. He continued to the frontlines in Middle Shabelle shortly after the attack to oversee military operations against Al-Shabaab.
