Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met
with regional leaders, security officials, and community members in Adale town
on Thursday to discuss the ongoing counterterrorism campaign and strategies for
stabilizing the region.
The gathering, held during an iftar dinner, brought together
politicians, Hirshabelle State officials, local defense forces, and prominent
religious scholars.
The president listened to participants’ insights and
proposals on how best to combat Al-Shabaab and strengthen national security.
“The Hirshabelle community has shown extraordinary courage
by putting their lives on the line to resist the terrorists who seek to destroy
our people and our nation,” President Mohamud said, commending the region’s
sacrifices in the face of extremist violence.
He emphasized the need for unity among communities, security
forces, and political leadership to achieve sustainable peace. The president
also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting regional
operations and reconstruction efforts in liberated areas.
The visit is part of President Mohamud’s tour of the
frontlines, where he is assessing military progress, engaging with troops, and
encouraging local participation in the fight against terrorism.
His government
has recently intensified military operations in Middle Shabelle and other
regions, with the goal of permanently weakening Al-Shabaab’s grip on rural
communities.
