Mogadishu (HOL) – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has killed a senior Al-Shabaab operative during a targeted operation conducted Tuesday in the Lower Shabelle region, the federal government announced.

According to an official statement, the militant was responsible for Al-Shabaab operations in Dhanaane and Gandarshe, two key areas in Lower Shabelle known for insurgent activity. The name of the slain militant was not disclosed, but officials confirmed that the NISA Gaashan special forces unit carried out the operation.

The latest operation comes on the heels of another recent NISA-led raid in the Sabiid area, where the Al-Shabaab commander behind ongoing mortar attacks in Mogadishu since 2023 was killed.

NISA has intensified its counter-terrorism campaign, particularly targeting Al-Shabaab leaders in the Lower and Middle Shabelle regions, as part of a broader strategy to dismantle the group’s command structure and disrupt its operations near the capital.

The government has reiterated its commitment to eliminating key terror figures, and security officials have praised the increased precision and coordination of recent intelligence-driven operations.
