Mogadishu (HOL) – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with Somali military forces, conducted a series of airstrikes in the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, killing at least 41 Al-Shabaab militants, including senior members.

According to NISA on Thursday, the first airstrike targeted an assembly of 29 Al-Shabaab fighters in the Boos-Hareeri area of Middle Shabelle on Thursday, eliminating them. A second strike in the Jambaluul area of Lower Shabelle killed an additional 12 militants.

In a statement, NISA said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to weaken the militant group’s capabilities, describing the strikes as a major blow to Al-Shabaab. The intelligence agency also warned civilians to stay away from Al-Shabaab hideouts as security forces continued to target the group.

These airstrikes come amid intensified military operations in the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, as well as Hiiraan, following Al-Shabaab’s recent escalation of attacks on Somali army bases.

The Somali government has vowed to sustain its offensive against the group to dismantle its remaining strongholds.
