Mogadishu (HOL) – Local militia forces known as Ma’awisley launched an attack on the residence of a senior Al-Shabaab leader in El-Bur, a district in Somalia’s Galgadud region, on Monday night. 

According to a government statement, the target of the assault was Yahye Laba Madax, whose house is located near the district police station. The statement confirmed that he was among several militants wounded in the attack. 

“This operation, carried out by local residents, occurred specifically at the leader’s residence near the El-Bur district base. The Khawarij militia suffered significant losses, including fatalities and injuries. In response, the Khawarij have begun targeting suspected informants within their own ranks,” the government statement said.

The raid has reportedly deepened internal suspicions within Al-Shabaab, heightening tensions in El-Bur, where the militant group maintains control. The situation remains volatile.

Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the attack.
