Far-right conspiracy peddler Alex Jones is still battling legal woes to retain his Infowars media network. However, The Onion, which has been seeking to acquire it out of bankruptcy, has decided to weaponize the toxic brand against him.
Infowars Parody Livestream
The satirical outlet’s weekly Infowars parody livestream, simply called Infowars, will air every Thursday at 8 pm ET across platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and Instagram under the handle @realinfowars. Tim Heidecker remains the creative director and Jones impressionist.
Grisly Death and Alex Jones’ Explosion
The first episode features a grisly death scene, with The Onion claiming that Alex Jones explodes from overeating Whataburger. This bombshell derails Heidecker’s Infowars-inspired show, Emergency.
Acquisition Saga Continues
The Onion first won a bankruptcy auction for Infowars in late 2024, supported by victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. However, a federal judge blocked the deal. Another deal to acquire Infowars’ assets is currently paused by a Texas appeals court.
The Onion emphasizes that the parody programming is a direct satire of Jones and his controversial content. ‘Legally, we have to say this is a direct parody…until we’re allowed to take over all his stuff,’ said Ben Collins, CEO of The Onion.
