Somali Politician Denies ICC Connection

A prominent Somali politician has denied any connection to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Xildhibaanad Ilhaan Cumar, a member of the Somali Parliament, recently came under scrutiny due to reports suggesting his close ties to former US President Donald Trump’s administration.

Cumar claimed that Trump’s administration had labelled the ICC as “corrupt and harmful,” leading to speculation that he may have influenced the organization’s actions.

The controversy arose following remarks made by US Senator Marco Rubio, who accused the ICC of undermining the sovereignty of nations and interfering with their internal affairs.

Cumar emphasized Somalia’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, stating that the country had done so to protect its sovereignty and independence.

He denied any wrongdoing or connection to the ICC, claiming that the allegations were unfounded and politically motivated.
