Beledweyne (HOL) – Hiiraan regional governor Muse Salad Wehliye has sharply criticized the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) for delivering what he described as “inadequate and disgraceful” aid to Somali National Army (SNA) and Macawisley militia forces in Moqokori district.
Speaking to local media, Governor Muse expressed his disappointment, saying the food aid sent by two planes consisted of just a few cartons of supplies, which he claimed were unfit for the fighters defending the region from Al-Shabaab militants.
“The militias have given their lives to defend this country. For SODMA to send a few boxes of food that are unworthy of their sacrifice is a scandal and a great shame for the government,” said the governor.
He further blasted the federal government for being slow and insufficient in supporting frontline forces in Hiiraan, even as they intensify operations against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the border zones between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle.
The governor’s remarks come amid growing public outrage on social media, where many residents of Hiiraan criticized the aid as insulting and far below expectations, especially in comparison to recent SODMA deliveries to areas in Middle Shabelle such as Masajid Ali Gaduud, El-Ali Ahmed, and Nur Dugle.
Despite significant recent territorial gains by local militia forces, including reclaiming areas previously under Al-Shabaab control, the lack of meaningful federal support has become a major point of contention between regional leaders and Mogadishu.
Governor Muse called on national leaders to deliver substantial, timely, and appropriate aid that reflects the sacrifice and contribution of the local fighters on the frontlines.
