A fire in the grounds of Kenya’s main international airport in Nairobi on Friday evening was not near the airstrip, had not disrupted flights and was being contained, Kenya Airways said.

Emergency response teams were on-site battling a grassland fire in a northern part of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport compound, the Kenya Red Cross wrote on X.

“The fire is not close to the runway. There’s not been any flight disruptions. They have managed to contain part of it,” said Henry Okatch, a Kenya Airways spokesperson.

An airport worker confirmed that operations at the airport were not affected.
