Somali PM Orders Investigation of Jabuuti Military Chief
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Axmed Macallin Fiqi, has ordered an investigation into the Chief of Staff of the Jabuuti Armed Forces, Xasan Cumar Maxamed Burhaan.
Fiqi accused Burhaan of mismanagement and corruption, claiming that he had undermined and hampered the efforts of the Somali army in combating terrorism and improving its performance.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed concern over reports of increased interference in Jabuuti’s internal affairs by foreign powers, particularly the United States and Ethiopia.
Fiqi announced that Burhaan had been relieved of his duties and placed under house arrest. The Prime Minister also directed the Somali Intelligence and Security Agency (SIS) to investigate the matter.
The Prime Minister’s order comes at a sensitive time for Somalia, which is battling against Al-Shabaab and other armed groups.
