Princess Cruises Ship Hit with Stomach Virus Outbreak

Health officials confirmed that over 120 passengers and crew members on a Princess Cruises ship docked in San Francisco on Thursday were infected with a stomach virus during their 20-day voyage.

Norovirus, highly contagious through food or surfaces, affected 102 passengers and 23 crew members on the Ruby Princess, which sailed from San Francisco to Canada and Alaska.

Symptoms include sudden vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain lasting up to three days.

Princess Cruises stated that the crew implemented enhanced sanitation protocols across the ship.

This is one of seven illness outbreaks reported on cruise ships in the CDC’s jurisdiction this year, mostly due to norovirus.
