Alkan expressed deep honour at representing Turkey during this milestone year, which also marks the 15th anniversary of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Mogadishu during a period of severe humanitarian crisis. The visit was pivotal in strengthening ties across multiple sectors between the two countries.
The relationship between Somalia and Turkey spans security, education, health, economic corridors, trade, and humanitarian aid, reflecting a partnership built on mutual respect, trust, and shared interests that both sides aim to elevate to new heights.
Engaging Somali Youth on Security and Stability
In his first engagement, Ambassador Alkan met with Somali youth in Mogadishu for a detailed discussion on security and stability developments in the capital and its surroundings over recent years. The youth shared their perspectives on the evolving security landscape in the region.
Alkan promised to listen to the ideas and advice of Somali citizens and Turkish friends residing in Somalia, stating that the doors of the Turkish Embassy will always remain open to the Somali people.
Commitment to Continued Support and Partnership
Emphasising his priorities, Alkan stated that Turkey will continue to support Somalia, particularly in security, development, and strengthening government institutions. He described the main goal as advancing the relationship towards prosperity and care for both peoples, whom he called friends and brothers.
During his tenure, the ambassador will focus on developing the relationship between the two countries, ensuring that cooperation continues to grow and benefit both nations and their citizens.
