Mogadishu (HOL) – Somalia’s Puntland State has called on international partners to provide logistical and technical assistance to support its ongoing military operations against ISIS militants in the Bari region.

The commander of the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF), General Abdirahman Mohamed Jama, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to combating the terrorist group but emphasized the need for additional resources to sustain the campaign.

“We are devoting everything we have to this fight, but to continue and ensure success, we need technical assistance, including drone interceptors, mine detectors, and night vision devices,” General Jama stated.

He clarified that Puntland is not seeking direct foreign military intervention but rather intelligence-sharing and logistical support to counter ISIS, which has exploited the rugged terrain of the Bari region to maintain its foothold.

For the past six weeks, Puntland forces have been engaged in one of their most challenging battles against ISIS, targeting its strongholds in the Al-Miskaat Mountains, where the group has operated for over a decade.

Security officials report that Puntland has successfully recaptured hundreds of square kilometers previously controlled by ISIS, disrupting the group’s ability to extort local communities.
