Mogadishu (HOL) — Puntland authorities have arrested three men in Garowe on charges of supporting the ISIS-affiliated militant group, security officials said Wednesday.

The suspects, identified as Abdiqadir Abdissalan Siyad, Fahad Mohamed Abshir, and Amir Abdi Muse Abdi, are accused of providing ideological and material support to extremist groups. Puntland police confirmed that the men are in custody and undergoing further investigation.

In a statement, authorities warned the public against spreading misinformation about the case, urging responsible use of social media platforms. Officials stated that the suspects would face legal proceedings in a court of law.

The arrests have sparked controversy, particularly over the detention of Abdiqadir Abdissalan Siyad, a well-known high school teacher in Garowe. Siyad, who taught moral and civic studies, was reportedly taken from his school last week. His detention has drawn public criticism and confusion, as he had recently participated in a school-organized campaign opposing ISIS and expressing support for Puntland security operations against militant groups.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the investigation, but the case has fueled debate over security measures and the fight against extremism in Puntland.
