Riyadh (HOL) — Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended the issuance of Umrah and family visit visas for Somali citizens and nationals from 13 other countries, citing the need to manage crowds and ensure security before the 2025 Hajj season.
Saudi authorities announced that the suspension, which took effect on April 13, is a precautionary measure and will remain in place until the conclusion of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
The temporary ban targets applicants without formal Hajj permits but does not affect pilgrims holding official Hajj visas or other authorized entry documents. Affected countries include Iran, Nigeria, Yemen, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Chad, Niger, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Libya, Sudan, and Pakistan.
Officials warned that violations of visa regulations would result in heavy fines, imprisonment, or deportation. They stressed that these measures are part of broader efforts to ensure the safety and orderly management of one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
Saudi Arabia emphasized that the restrictions are temporary and will be lifted once the Hajj season concludes.
