The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Israel's ongoing military incursions, specifically denouncing the completion of the so-called 'Sufa 53' line. Damascus characterized the latest assault as a flagrant violation of international resolutions and a clear breach of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
Details of the Illegal Excavation
Israeli occupation forces continued their relentless violations inside Syrian territory on Sunday, carrying out illegal excavation work along the separation line with the occupied Golan Heights. The operations took place west of the village of Al-Asha in the Quneitra countryside, under what the occupation forces designate as the 'Sufa 53' project.
According to reports from the official Syrian channel, the Israeli plan involves carving out an 8-meter-wide military road fortified with earthen berms as high as 5 meters. The project also includes digging trenches and establishing observation posts along the route running alongside the occupied Syrian Golan Heights inside the buffer zone.
Damascus Calls for International Action
In a statement, the ministry deemed the move a clear breach of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and a flagrant violation of international resolutions. The ministry stressed that the occupation's unabated attacks and ground incursions represent a direct threat to regional security and stability, as well as vitiating the provisions of international law.
It called on the international community to take deterrent actions to terminate these actions and prevent their recurrence. Syria adheres to its legitimate right to exercise full sovereignty over its territory in conformity with the principles of international law and the relevant UN resolutions, the statement reaffirmed.
