Iran officially opened a new military training facility in central Tehran on Saturday, marking a significant escalation in preparations for potential foreign aggression. The ceremony, held in the capital, signals a shift in strategy as the nation readies its volunteer forces against reported American threats to 'annihilate' the country. Officials stated that the site will specifically be utilized to train volunteers in the event of a ground invasion by the United States.
Mass Mobilization Under the Janfada Campaign
The new base is part of a broader government initiative known as 'Janfada,' or 'Sacrificials,' designed to rally national unity. Authorities report that more than 30 million people, representing one third of Iran's total population, have joined the campaign and expressed readiness to lay down their lives for the nation. This surge in participation contrasts sharply with the domestic situation earlier in the year, when January witnessed some of the largest nationwide protests driven by economic concerns and wider grievances.
Despite the massive mobilization, the head of training for the paramilitary Basij force, Ali Kowsari, addressed the current state of domestic security during the inauguration. He noted that regarding domestic unrest, the current capabilities of the armed forces are sufficient for now, and there is no immediate need to expand those capacities. However, he emphasized that with respect to external enemies, a synergy has emerged, and the state will certainly utilize these new capabilities to defend the Islamic Republic of Iran against foreign threats.
International Volunteers and Strategic Defense
The training effort has attracted significant attention, with officials noting that more than 500,000 people have signed up for military training, ready to fight for their country. The scope of the campaign extends beyond local citizens, as Sasan Zare, a spokesman for the Sacrificial Volunteers campaign, highlighted the presence of foreign nationals at similar training sites. He stated that at Imam Hossein Square, there are individuals present who are US citizens who have come to Iran and are willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Iranian people and fight against the United States.
Zare further reported that the campaign is receiving many requests from foreign nationals residing in the country, asking to be allowed to undergo training, take up arms, and fight against the enemies of the land. This influx of international volunteers underscores the gravity of the perceived threat and the government's determination to build a robust defense network capable of resisting external aggression.
