xAI Sues First User Accused of Creating Illegal Content with Grok
AI company xAI has filed a lawsuit against Terry Wayne Harwood, the first user that Elon Musk’s firm has accused of using its chatbot Grok to create illegal content.
The complaint alleges that Harwood used two xAI accounts to undress or “nudify” non-sexual images of multiple victims, including a young girl who appeared to be as young as 10.
xAI claims that its assistance led to Harwood’s arrest earlier this year for possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
This lawsuit comes after several victims accused xAI of failing to help police identify users who uploaded their images to Grok. A 2026 National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) report states that 90 percent of xAI’s CyberTipline reports were not actionable due to the company’s refusal to provide user information.
Musk previously denied seeing any examples of Grok-generated CSAM, but he has advised users to be responsible and warned that anyone using Grok to create illegal content will face consequences.
