TikTok Tests Tool to Detect Unauthorized AI Deepfakes
TikTok is taking steps to combat the proliferation of unauthorized AI deepfakes, as spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra.
The company is testing an opt-in tool that scans for AI likenesses and allows creators to report potentially unauthorized uses of their likeness.
“TikTok is initially testing this tool with some US creators,” said TikTok US spokesperson Zachary Kizer.
Creators can request that TikTok scan their content for AI-generated deepfakes that violate their intellectual property rights.
To use the tool, creators must verify their identity using Jumio, a third-party service that conducts real-time selfie scans and ID checks. TikTok emphasizes that it does not retain any ID documents or facial information beyond its likeness detection purposes.
After verification, TikTok’s system scans for AI-generated content potentially using the creator’s likeness. Creators can then review the results and report any unauthorized posts or accounts.
