Mogadishu (HOL) — A mortar attack struck the heavily fortified Halane compound near Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, targeting one of the most secured zones in Somalia that houses the United Nations, African Union officials, and multiple foreign embassies.

Local security sources confirmed that at least two projectiles landed inside the compound, including near the Movement Control (Movcon) area where UN personnel board aircraft. However, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack comes a day after Al-Shabaab militants targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy in a bomb attack near Villa Somalia as he was travelling through Mogadishu. While the president was unharmed, at least four people were killed in the explosion. The attack marked the first direct attempt on Mohamud’s life since 2014.

Security forces have investigated the incident, and additional measures are being taken to prevent further attacks.
