Kampala (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Kampala on Friday for an official visit to strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance cooperation between Somalia and Uganda in key sectors, including security, trade, and development.
During his visit, President Mohamud is scheduled to meet with his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, to discuss enhancing economic, diplomatic, and security partnerships. A central topic of discussion will be their joint efforts to combat terrorist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab, which continue to pose a significant threat to regional stability.
Abdirahman Adam Ali, the spokesman for the Somali Presidential Palace, emphasized that the visit highlights Somalia and Uganda’s mutual interests and shared objectives.
“This visit is a testament to the strong and growing relationship between our two countries,” Ali said. “It provides an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and to reaffirm our commitment to peace, security, and development in the region.”
The two leaders are expected to sign agreements deepening bilateral cooperation in critical areas such as trade, education, and security. Officials from both governments have indicated that these agreements are part of broader efforts to boost regional stability and support Somalia’s ongoing state-building process.
