The President of Somalia’s Jubaland state, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, has held talks with senior United States military officials on strengthening security cooperation and intensifying operations against the Islamist militant group al-Shabab.

According to a statement from the Jubaland administration, President Ahmed met Lieutenant General Claude K. Tudor Jr, Commander of Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA), which operates under the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), along with other military and security officials.
The discussions focused on the security situation in Jubaland and ways to enhance cooperation between the regional administration and the United States.
A key part of the meeting centred on accelerating military operations against al-Shabab, with both sides stressing the importance of reclaiming areas that remain under the group’s control. They also underscored the need for increased security assistance and closer collaboration to help achieve long-term stability in the region.

The talks also covered broader bilateral cooperation between Jubaland and the United States, particularly in counterterrorism efforts, intelligence sharing, and strengthening the capabilities of local security forces.
President Ahmed was accompanied by the Director of the Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency, Mohamed Ahmed Sabriye, who oversees the coordination of security operations within the regional administration.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen international security cooperation and accelerate operations aimed at improving security across Jubaland.
