Senegal Sack Manager Thiaw After World Cup Exit
Senegal have sacked manager Pape Thiaw following their dramatic exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Teranga Lions, who had been under Thiaw’s leadership since December 2024, bowed out of the competition after losing their last-32 match against Belgium 3-2.
Senegal’s early losses to France and Norway in the group stage had already raised questions about Thiaw’s future in charge.
Following the exit, midfielder Pape Gueye expressed his support for the current management but hinted at a potential break from international duty.
The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) stated that the decision to sack Thiaw was made after a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance and future prospects.
Senegal’s World Cup exit comes after a tumultuous period for the team. They were controversially stripped of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following a controversy involving Thiaw.
Thiaw’s controversial handling of the Afcon final in January ultimately led to Caf overturning the result and awarding the title to Morocco.
