Somali Government Confirms Attack on Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle
The Somali government confirmed an operation against Al-Shabaab militants in the Lower Shabelle region on Monday, claiming the assault resulted in the deaths of 26 insurgents.
The operation was conducted by the Somali Army and African Union peacekeeping forces in the vicinity of Cadow Jilib, Gayfo, and Qordheere districts.
The Ministry of Information reported that the operation aimed to liberate local communities from Al-Shabaab control and disrupt their financial networks.
The government also confirmed receiving international support for the operation, which aims to weaken Al-Shabaab’s influence in the region.
The Somali government has been battling Al-Shabaab for over a decade, and the group still controls large parts of rural southern Somalia.
