Switzerland Advance to Round of 16 at World Cup
Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye both scored as Switzerland secured a 2-0 victory over Algeria on Thursday night, advancing them to the round of 16 at the World Cup.
Switzerland will face the winner of Friday’s match between Colombia and Ghana in Kansas City, Missouri. The round-of-16 game is scheduled for next Tuesday in Vancouver.
Although Switzerland have reached the round of 16 in the past three World Cups, they have not progressed beyond the group stage since 1938.
Algeria’s exit concludes their return to the World Cup after six years. They had reached the knockout round in 2014 but were eliminated by eventual champions Germany.
