Wasaaradda Cadaaladda Maraykanka ayaa ku eedeysay laba shaqaale hore oo FBI-da ah inay been sheegeen golaha sharci-dejinta, taas oo la xiriirta baaritaannada ay hay'addu ku sameysay Hunter Biden, sida lagu sheegay war-bixin ay heshay NPR.
Eedaha iyo habka dacwada
Bradley Benavides, 56, iyo Nikki Floris, 46, mid kastaa wuxuu wajahayaa hal dambi oo ka dhashay marqaati ay bixiyeen hortiisa sharci-dejiyayaasha sanadkii 2023. Waxaa lagu soo oogay dacwad qoraal ah, taas oo macnaheedu yahay in xeer-ilaaliyayaashu aysan wali ka helin golaha weyn ee xeerbeegtida (grand jury) go'aanka dacwada.
Benavides iyo Floris labaduba waxay hortimid maxkamadda federaalka ee Washington, D.C., subaxnimadii Jimcaha, iyagoo hor fadhiya Garsoore Magistrate Zia Faruqui. Waxay dib ugu noqon doonaan maxkamadda dhageysiga horudhaca ah maalinta Talaadada.
Hadalka xeer-ilaaliyaha iyo garsooraha
Xeer-ilaaliyaha Maraykanka ee Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, ayaa bayaankeeda ku qoray X in Floris iyo Benavides "allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI's Hunter Biden investigations, with one claiming they only learned about it from Wikipedia — despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden's laptop right before the election."
Garsoore Faruqui wuxuu xusay in labada eedaysane ay leeyihiin "sparkling backgrounds" howlaha sharci-fulinta federaalka, isla markaana ay ahaayeen shaqaale dadweyne oo muddo dheer daacad u ahaa. Wuxuu kaloo xusay in dacwad qoraal ah oo lagu soo oogay dabeecad "quite old" ay tahay wax aan caadi ahayn.
Asalka kiiska laptop-ka
Laptop-ka Hunter Biden, oo ah wiilka madaxweynihii hore Joe Biden, ayaa noqday arrin si weyn loo baaray ka dib markii The New York Post ay toddobaadyo ka hor doorashadii madaxweynaha 2020 ku soo warisay in qalabka lagu dayactirka ka tagay dukaan ku yaal Delaware sanadkii 2019, kadibna uu helay Rudy Giuliani, oo ahaa qareenkii gaarka ahaa ee madaxweynihii hore Donald Trump.
Jamhuuriyiintu waxay muddo dheer ku eedeeyeen FBI-da inay si khaldan u maareysay laptop-ka iyo baaritaannada ku saabsan Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden waxaa lagu xukumay dambiyo federaal ah oo ku saabsan hubka, kadibna wuxuu qirtay dambiyo canshuur oo gooni ah.
Bradley Benavides and Nikki Floris each face one criminal count over 2023 testimony; both appeared in a Washington, D.C., federal court on Friday.
The Justice Department has charged two former FBI employees with making false statements to Congress in connection with the bureau's investigations into Hunter Biden, according to the charges. Bradley Benavides, 56, and Nikki Floris, 46, each face a single criminal count stemming from testimony before lawmakers in 2023.
Charges Filed by Complaint, Not Yet Indicted
The two were charged by complaint, which means prosecutors have yet to secure an indictment from a grand jury. Benavides and Floris both appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Friday morning before Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui. Faruqui noted that both defendants have "sparkling backgrounds" in federal law enforcement and were longtime dedicated public servants.
Prosecutor Cites Claims About Wikipedia
In a statement on X, the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, said Floris and Benavides "allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI's Hunter Biden investigations, with one claiming they only learned about it from Wikipedia — despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden's laptop right before the election." Faruqui also noted that charging them by criminal complaint for conduct that is "quite old" is unusual. Benavides and Floris are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
Background on the Laptop and Earlier Cases
Hunter Biden's laptop drew intense scrutiny after The New York Post reported weeks before the 2020 presidential election that the device was abandoned at a Delaware repair shop in 2019 and then obtained by President Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. Republicans have long accused the FBI of mishandling the laptop and the investigations into the younger Biden. Hunter Biden was convicted of federal gun charges and later pleaded guilty to separate tax offenses.
