Top US officials have criticised the decision to grant the suspects bail. Laurence Taylor, head of British counterterror policing, said the decision was grounded in 'experience and strategy'.
Investigation Yields No Explosives, One Suspect Called Police
After three days of investigations, including the use of a bomb disposal team, police said they had found no explosives in the vehicles but had retrieved a quantity of petrol. One of the men called emergency services shortly before being arrested in the early hours, though police declined to comment on the call.
The Times reported that investigators were unsure whether the suspect who called emergency services got cold feet or it was part of a plan. Whether the call was surveillance, a dry run to test security or a stunt to send a message to the British government are all under consideration.
