What’s happened? Google is updating the NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS with two new features that first rolled out on the web version this September.

• In a recent blog post, the company announced that the NotebookLM app is getting flashcards and quizzes to help users easily memorize key concepts from their sources and test their knowledge on the go.
• The update also brings a change for Chat and Studio generations, which will allow users to temporarily select and unselect sources so that responses are only based on sources they care about.
• Furthermore, the update includes the chat improvements announced late last month, which offer “50% better quality, a four-times larger context window and six-times longer conversation memory.”

Why is this important? This update turns the NotebookLM app into a more active learning tool, helping users retain information more effectively with flashcards and testing their knowledge with quizzes.
