The startup says its eight-gram device filters out nearby voices and discards audio after processing.

Nirva has announced a $25 million pre-Series A round, adding to $8 million raised earlier in the year from investors including Lightspeed and South Park Commons, for a total of $33 million. The company is building a jewelry-like pendant designed to listen only to the person wearing it.

A pendant built to blend with fashion

Nirva was founded in 2025 by two former Meta Reality Labs employees, Wei Lyu and Jason Chen, along with Hanying Hu, who founded a fashion and jewelry brand. Its first device is a pendant that can also be worn as a bracelet, weighs around eight grams and has a battery lasting up to three days on a single charge. CEO Wei Lyu said the company wanted a wearable that blends in with fashion while providing value to users.

Listening only to the wearer

Lyu said, "This is a piece of jewelry that only focuses on listening to your own speech. We are not like a voice recorder or like a meeting note taker. One key difference between us, Taya, Vocci, or Sandbar Ring is that we’re always passively listening to your own speech. So it’s always on. It keeps modeling the user and modeling your mind."

Nirva asks users to record voice snippets during onboarding and builds its model from those. During use, the device filters out conversations or data from other people nearby, so it records only the wearer. By default, Nirva does not keep audio data or transcripts after processing conversations.

Insights, orders and competition

Nirva describes itself as a personal insights company rather than a productivity startup, though its app shows reminders and action items. The app parses users' speech into insights about personality, patterns, people, places and daily notes, including emotions and communication style. Lyu said, "I think there’s no universal way to help everyone to solve their problems. We are building a tool to help people to improve their self-understanding, self-compassion, and self-awareness."

Nirva will start taking orders in November and aims to ship to early users by the end of the year. The $249 device will come in silver, brushed silver, black and gold. Competitors include Taya, which is also building intelligent jewelry, and companion-gadget startups Friend and Bee.
