Boreal oo xiriirkeeda la jebisay qoraa Thelyson Orelien kadib markii la xaqiijiyay isticmaalka AI
Shirkadda daabacaadda Boreal ayaa Arbacadii sheegtay in ay kala gooyeen xiriirka shaqo ee qoraaga Thelyson Orelien, kadib markii ay xaqiijisay in sirdoonka macmalka ah loo isticmaalay qorista buuggiisa "It Was Either That or Die".
Baaritaanka iyo natiijada
Boreal ayaa sheegtay in ay baaritaan dheeraad ah sameysay kadib markii eedeymo soo baxeen bishii Sebtembar, si loo ogaado in AI loo isticmaalay qorista buugga. Shirkaddu waxay sheegtay in ay soo ururisay dhammaan nuqullada shaqada ee buugga oo ay u kireysatay dhinac dibadda ah si uu u falanqeeyo nuqullada kala duwan.
Boreal waxay tidhi: "Macluumaad cusub, oo la xaqiijiyay maalmihii u dambeeyay, ayaa tilmaamaya in sirdoonka macmalka ah loo isticmaalay habka qorista" buugga. Shirkaddu waxay sheegtay in aysan garanayn baaxadda isticmaalka AI "oo waxay u badan tahay in aynaan waligeen helin jawaab qatima ah". Waxay intaa ku dartay: "Natiijooyinka la helay toddobaadkan ayaa daaha ka qaaday raadadka calaamadaha AI ee xogta metadata ee qoraallada qaarkood."
Taageero hore iyo diidmooyinka qoraaga
Orelien wuxuu horey u diiday eedeymaha ku saabsan buuggiisa, toddobaadkii horena Boreal waxay sheegtay in ay taageerayso qoraaga 38-jirka ah. Boreal waxay sheegtay in ay isku dayday in ay la shaqeyso Orelien si ay u ururiso caddaynta lagama maarmaanka u ah caddeynta bannaanidiisa, laakiin dadaalkaas ma dhammaanin, Orelien-na "markii dambe wuxuu ku dhawaaqay in uusan bixin doonin macluumaad dheeraad ah".
Orelien wuxuu eedeymaha ku tilmaamay "aflagaado iyo bidco" bayaan uu u diray AFP horraantii bishan. Wuxuu yiri: "Halkan iyo halkaas waxaan isticmaalay qalab cilmi-baaris, gaar ahaan tibaaxaha shisheeye." Wuxuu intaa ku daray: "Laakiin hal jumlad oo buuggan ku jirta ma uusan abuurin mishiin, mana aha macnaha ama qaab-dhismeedka sheeko ka soo baxda calooshayda." Arbacadii, isagoo ku hadlayay wargeyska Faransiiska Liberation, Orelien wuxuu sheegay in uu AI u isticmaalay "habka abuurista" iyo "cilmi-baaris taariikhi ah".
Abaalmarinta Goncourt iyo taariikhda qorista
Buugga Orelien ee ku saabsan socdaalka, oo loo yaqaan magaciisa Faransiiska "C'etait ca ou mourir", ayaa loo qorsheeyay in lagu tarjumo in ka badan 20 waddan. Abaalmarinta ugu sarreysa buugaagta Faransiiska, Goncourt, ayaa buugga ka saartay liistada gaaban kadib markii baaritaanno lagu sameeyay qalabka ogaanshaha AI ee Pangram ay tilmaameen 100 boqolkiiba suurtagalnimada in uu ka kooban yahay qoraal uu kombuyuutar soo saaray.
Orelien wuxuu sheegay in uu bilaabay qorista buugga dabayaaqadii 2017, ka hor inta aan adeegyada AI sida ChatGPT si ballaaran loo helin. Markii ugu horreysay ee eedeymaha soo baxeen bishii Sebtembar, Orelien wuxuu sheegay in uu ka shakiyay in cunsuriyad ay ka dambeysay weerarrada isaga lagu qaaday.
Boreal says metadata analysis found traces of AI tags in drafts of "It Was Either That or Die"; Orelien has denied that a machine wrote any sentence.
Canadian publisher Boreal has severed its professional relationship with Thelyson Orelien after confirming that artificial intelligence was used in the writing of his novel "It Was Either That or Die", the company said on Wednesday.
Publisher says outside analysis found AI traces in document metadata
Boreal said it opened a further investigation after allegations surfaced in September to determine whether AI was used to write the novel. In a statement, the publisher said: "New information, confirmed over the past few days, indicates that artificial intelligence was used in the writing process" of the book.
The publisher said it did not know the extent of AI's use "and we will likely never have a definitive answer". Boreal gathered all the working versions of the novel and hired an outside party to analyse the drafts. "The results obtained this week revealed traces of AI tags in the metadata of certain documents," it said.
Publisher says author declined to provide further information
Boreal said it had tried to work with Orelien to gather the evidence needed to prove his innocence, but the effort was inconclusive. The publisher said Orelien "subsequently announced that he would not provide any further information". Orelien had previously denied the allegations, and last week Boreal said it was standing by the 38-year-old writer.
The novel, about migration and originally titled "C'etait ca ou mourir" in French, had been scheduled for translation in more than 20 countries. France's top book prize, the Goncourt, removed it from its shortlist after tests with the AI detector Pangram indicated a 100 percent probability that it contained computer-generated text.
Orelien denies machine-written sentences and cites research use
Orelien called the allegations "slander and heresy" in a statement sent to AFP earlier this month. "Here and there I did use tools for research, particularly for foreign idioms," he said. "But not a single sentence in this book was created by a machine, nor the meaning or the structure of a story that comes from my gut," Orelien said.
On Wednesday, he told the French newspaper Liberation that he had used AI "in the creative process" for "historical research". Orelien said he began writing the book in late 2017, before services such as ChatGPT were widely available. When the allegations first surfaced in September, he said he suspected racism was behind the attacks on him.
