Asus waxay heshay xuraafad ka hor inta uusan dhicin 9-kii September, iyadoo diyaar u ah inay soo saarto router-ka Wi-Fi 8-ka ugu horreeya ee Mareykanka, balse ma sheegin inay qorshe u yeelanayso inay sameyso dalkaasi.
Xadka router-ka iyo xuraafadda Asus
Dowladda Mareykanka waxay xadiday router-ka dhaqameedka dibadda ka soo galaya, iyadoo u baahan tahay in shirkaduhu ay soo gudbiyaan qorshe waqti la xiriira inay sameyso dalkaasi. Asus waxay heshay xuraafad oo ka dhigaysa inay sii waddo soo saarista router-ka, iyadoo aanay xaqiijin inay qorshe sameynta dalka Mareykanka soo gudbisay.
Asus waxay sheegtay inay soo gudbisay qorshe u baahan FCC, balse markii la weydiiyay inay sameyneyso dalka Mareykanka, ma jawaabin. Ma jiraan wax war ah oo ku saabsan qorshe sameynta dalka Mareykanka, iyadoo xuraafaddu ay ku dhamaaneyso March 2028.
FCC iyo xaqiiqda xadka
FCC ma weydiiso shirkadaha su'aal kasta oo ku saabsan amniga si ay u hesho xuraafad, balse waxay diiradda saaraysaa halka router-ka la sameeyo. Asus iyo Netgear labaduba waxay sheegeen inay sameeyaan dalka Mareykanka isku xiran, iyadoo Netgear ay sheegtay inay ka baxday inay ka iibsato shirkadaha China.
FCC ma jawaabin codsi la soo gudbiyay, balse waxay xuraafadda sii waddaa. Asus waxay sheegtay inay ka gudubtay baaritaan amniga, balse ma jiro xaqiiqo ku saabsan inay tahay mid rasmi ah.
Asus iyo Netgear: Isticmaalka xuraafadda
Asus iyo Netgear labaduba waxay isticmaalaan xuraafadda dowladda si ay u muujiyaan inay yihiin shirkado ammaan ah. Asus waxay sheegtay inay tahay 'Brand-ka Ammaanka Router-ka' iyo 'Vendor-ka Router-ka', balse baaritaanka ma jiro xaqiiqo ku saabsan inay tahay mid rasmi ah.
Netgear waxay u diray email-ka macaamiisha hore si ay u sheegto inay tahay shirkad ammaan ah. Asus iyo Netgear labaduba waxay sheegeen inay sameeyaan dalka Mareykanka isku xiran, balse ma jiro xaqiiqo ku saabsan inay sameyso dalka Mareykanka.
Asus has received a blanket exemption from the US router ban effective through March 2028, allowing it to ship its first Wi-Fi 8 routers to the United States. However, the company has not publicly announced plans to establish manufacturing in the US and declined to confirm whether it submitted a manufacturing plan to the FCC.
The US Router Ban and Asus's Exemption
The Trump administration banned all future foreign-made consumer routers unless manufacturers could prove they were not a national security threat and submit a detailed, time-bound plan to establish or expand manufacturing in the United States. The FCC granted Asus a blanket exemption on all future routers through March 2028, without asking a single question about security. The exemption is primarily about where routers are made rather than whether they are safe.
As of September 9th, Asus has an exemption from the US router ban, just in time to bring its first early Wi-Fi 8 routers to the US. The company has not publicly announced any plan to bring manufacturing to the US. It would not even confirm to The Verge whether it had submitted a US manufacturing plan.
Asus's Vague Response and FCC Silence
Initially, Asus spokesperson JJ Guerrero forwarded the following statement to The Verge: 'ASUS has submitted the required plan to the FCC and is working with trusted manufacturing partners to support our future networking product portfolio in the U.S.' But when repeatedly asked to clarify whether that meant it had submitted a plan to manufacture equipment in the United States, the company did not answer. We've been waiting over 12 days without clarification.
The FCC did not respond to a request for comment then, and it has not responded to a fact-check request for this story. Perhaps it is simply satisfied that these companies aren't making them in China; both Asus and Netgear claim they're manufacturing in countries that are considered US allies.
Marketing Claims and Questions About the Ban's Purpose
Publicly, both Asus and Netgear are using the US government's exemptions as marketing tools. Asus now claims it passed a 'rigorous cybersecurity review' and is now certified as a 'Trusted Networking Equipment Brand' and listed as a 'Trusted Consumer Router Vendor,' as if those were official terms. But search results for 'Trusted Networking Equipment Brand' and 'Trusted Consumer Router Vendor' only point back to Asus's own claims — not the federal government.
If the US router ban is not about US manufacturing, and it is not about security, what is it actually about? Why did the Trump administration suddenly give Asus a blanket exemption, and why did it give Netgear a similar blanket exemption back in April? The FCC has not provided a clear explanation for the purpose of the ban or the criteria for granting exemptions.
