    AFRICOM commander, Ethiopian Prime Minister discuss security cooperation in Horn of Africa

    Addis Ababa (HOL) — U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander
    Gen. Michael Langley met Friday with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in the
    capital, Addis Ababa, to discuss regional security challenges.


    According to a brief statement from the U.S. Embassy in
    Addis Ababa, the two leaders focused on joint efforts to combat terrorist
    threats posed by al-Shabab and the Islamic State group in the Horn of Africa.



    “General Michael Langley, Commander of U.S. Africa Command
    (AFRICOM), visited Ethiopia and met with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
    Their discussions focused on countering terrorist threats from al-Shabaab and
    ISIS in the Horn of Africa,” the embassy posted on X, formerly known as
    Twitter.

    Prime Minister Abiy also confirmed the meeting, noting that
    the discussion centered on strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and
    AFRICOM in the ongoing fight against militant groups.


    Langley’s visit underscores Washington’s continued
    engagement in the region as security threats from extremist groups persist
    across East Africa.
