Xafiiska difaaca Maraykanka ayaa maanta sheegay in ciidamadii ugu dambeeyay ee dalka Iiraq ku sugnaa ay ka baxeen, kadib howlgal 12 sano ah oo lagu dhaqaaqay dagaalka kooxda ISIL.
Bixinta ciidamada iyo qorshaha
Sean Parnell, sarkaal ka tirsan xafiiska difaaca Maraykanka, ayaa sheegay in ciidamada iyo qalabkii hore uga jiray Erbil Airbase ay ku guuleysteen inay ka baxaan si dhaqso ah. Tani waxay ku dhamaatay howlgal 12 sano ah oo lagu dhaqaaqay dagaalka kooxda ISIL.
Ciidamada Maraykanka iyo kuwa kale ee caalamiga ah waxay ka baxeen Erbil Airbase, halkaas oo horey uga jiray 1,500 ciidamo. Qorshaha ugu dambeeyay ee bixinta ciidamada ayaa la saxiixay 2024-kii, iyadoo madaxweynihii hore ee Maraykanka Joe Biden iyo wasiirka hore ee Iiraq Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ay isku raaceen.
Go'aamada iyo xaaladda amniga
Wasiirka hore ee Iiraq Ali al-Zaidi ayaa sheegay in bixinta ciidamada ay tahay bilowga daqiiqo cusub oo Iiraq ku jirto, iyadoo xiriirka Maraykanka iyo Iiraq uu u beddelayo mid dhaqaale iyo amni oo caadi ah. Wuxuu sidoo kale sheegay in Iiraq uu u baahan yahay inuu ka hortago kooxaha ISIL iyo kuwa Iran la xiriira.
Xukuumadda Iiraq ayaa sheegtay inay leedahay awoodda inay ka hortagto khatarta ISIL iyadoo aan loo baahnayn ciidamo Maraykanka ah. Hase yeeshee, raiisul wasaare al-Zaidi wuxuu diyaarinayaa qorshaha inuu ka saaro dalka ciidamada awoodda leh ee Iran la xiriira, iyadoo la filayo inay dhamaadaan 2027-kii.

The Pentagon confirmed on Wednesday that the last US and coalition forces have departed Iraq, ending a 12-year anti-ISIL campaign that peaked at 170,000 troops in 2007 before the final 1,500 personnel left Erbil Airbase.
Orderly Departure From Erbil Airbase
Defense Department spokesman Sean Parnell said the remaining US troops and other international coalition forces, along with equipment, conducted an orderly departure from the Erbil Airbase in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. The base had hosted 1,500 US and other coalition forces prior to the departure, according to CENTCOM.
The few hundred remaining foreign troops were consolidated in Erbil at the end of last year, after shifting to an advisory role in the wake of ISIL's territorial defeat in 2017. CENTCOM said the task force overseeing anti-ISIL operations has been relocated to Jordan, with hundreds of US troops still stationed in Syria.
A New Era for Iraq-US Relations
Parnell described the withdrawal as the success of a 12-year campaign that defeated ISIS as an organised military threat in Iraq and across the region. It also marks a transition from a wartime coalition mission to an Iraqi-led security effort supported by a more normal bilateral security relationship.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has praised the withdrawal as the beginning of a new era for Iraq, with US ties shifting to more traditional economic and security bilateral relations. He has called on regional and foreign powers to invest in Iraq.
Security Concerns and Militia Disarmament
Parnell said the departure means the primary responsibility for addressing Iraq's remaining security challenges, including ISIL remnants and Iran-aligned militias that undermine Iraqi sovereignty and regional stability, now rests with the Government of Iraq. He added that the Department of War will continue to provide targeted training and intelligence support to its Iraqi partners.
Kurdish officials have been among the most vocal critics of the withdrawal, saying it leaves the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region vulnerable to both Iranian strikes and a possible ISIL resurgence. Al-Zaidi undertakes a wider effort to disarm powerful militias in the country, including several closely aligned with Iran, by June 2027.
