Ahmed Isse Gutale, Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, met his Rwandan counterpart Alexis Kamuhire in Kigali to discuss audit cooperation and public finance transparency during a regional learning event on public debt management.
Somali Delegation Engages Rwandan Office on Audit Collaboration
The two Auditors General discussed strengthening relations and cooperation between their offices, and the exchange of knowledge and experience in audit work, transparency and accountability in public finances. The meeting took place at the Office of the Auditor General of Rwanda, where officials reviewed ways to enhance mutual understanding of public debt challenges.
According to the Office of the Auditor General, its participation in the event and the visit to its Rwandan counterpart are part of its efforts to build shared expertise and understanding on public debt, and to support transparency, accountability and the sound management of public finances in Somalia.
PFMA Spotlight Learning Brings Together Over 20 African Nations
Gutale is in Kigali for the PFMA Spotlight Learning on Public Debt Management in Transition States, a learning event organised by the African Development Institute of the African Development Bank. The event runs from 28 September to 2 October and focuses on strengthening the capacity of government institutions in debt transparency, accountability and the sound management of public finances.
More than 20 African countries are taking part, together with international organisations, sharing knowledge, experience and approaches to strengthening the management of public debt, financial transparency and accountability.
Somali Delegation Includes Key Finance Officials
The Somali delegation also includes the Accountant General of the Federal Government, Mohamed Mohamud Abdulle, and the Deputy Chair of the Finance Committee of the House of the People, MP Mohamed Haroun Abdullahi. Their presence underscores the government's commitment to aligning audit, accounting and parliamentary oversight around public debt management.
The visit reflects a broader push by Somalia's financial institutions to adopt international best practices in public finance governance, with the Auditor General's office positioning itself as a central node in regional knowledge-sharing networks.
