Itoobiya maanta sheegtay inay xerada dibaddeda ee Eritrea u xireyso, iyadoo 10 masuul Eritreed ah ku xireyso xukunka sharciga ah ee 'persona non grata' kadib markii la sheegay inay ku lug leeyihiin arrimo amni darro ah.
Sababta xiritaanka xerada iyo xukunka
Wasiiradda arrimaha dibadda ee Itoobiya waxay sheegtay in tallaabadan ay ka jawaabto 'hantiyada tooska ah iyo kuwa aan tooska ahayn ee Eritrea ku hayso Itoobiya.' Waxayna intaas ku dartay in masuuliyiinta Eritreed ay ku lug leeyihiin 'arrimo ku xiran amniga qaranka Itoobiya.'
Xerada Itoobiya ee Eritrea ayaa 2018-kii dib loo furay iyadoo loo maray wadashaqayn dhexdood ah oo ka dhacday xilligii Ra'iisul Wasaare Abiy Axmed uu helay Pambiyada Nabadgelyada Qaramada Midoobay. Masuuliyiinta Eritreed waxaa la siiyay 48 saacadood si ay uga baxaan dalalka.
Baaritaanka qaraxii xarunta ciidamada
Wararka ayaa sheegaya in qarax ka dhacay xarunta ciidamada dowladda Itoobiya (ENDF) Addis Ababa, isagoo dhacay xilliga u dhexeeya saacadaha dhexe iyo subaxnimada.
Dagaalka waqooyiga Itoobiya iyo jawaabta Qaramada Midoobay
Eritrea waxay diiday eedeymaha lagu hayo inay taageerto urur ciidan oo ka kooban TPLF, Fano iyo OLA, kaas oo lagu magacaabo 'Alliance for Survival' oo dagaal kula jira dowladda Itoobiya. Dagaalka waqooyiga Itoobiya ayaa sii kordhay, waxaana dhintay iyo dhaawacmay kuwa badan.
Qaramada Midoobay waxay codsatay in la yareeyo dagaalka iyo in la yeesho wadahadallo u dhexeeya dowladda Itoobiya iyo ururka cusub ee Alliance for Survival.
Ethiopia has closed its embassy in Eritrea and declared ten Eritrean diplomats persona non grata, citing direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence against Ethiopia, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Diplomatic Breakdown
Ethiopia announced on Thursday that it was shutting its embassy in Eritrea and declaring ten Eritrean diplomats persona non grata, accusing them of involvement in activities that pose a direct threat to Ethiopia's national security. The Eritrean diplomats were given 48 hours to leave the country.
The embassy in Eritrea had been reopened in 2018 as part of the rapprochement that culminated in Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry said the action was being taken in response to Eritrea's direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence against Ethiopia.
Military Blast in Addis Ababa
The diplomatic measures came following reports of an explosion overnight at the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) headquarters in Addis Ababa. The blast occurred between midnight and 1:00am local time, with the Associated Press reporting three blasts after the government banned the use of drones in the capital.
It is not clear whether the blasts were related to any attack or whether they had been part of training exercises. Security sources could not provide further information relating to the nature of the blast or who was responsible, or if there had been any casualties.
Wider Regional Tensions
Eritrea has denied allegations that it supports an armed alliance — which includes the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), the Amhara Fano National Movement, and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) — currently fighting Ethiopian government forces. The coalition is named Alliance for Survival.
Hundreds have been killed and wounded since last week's resumption of heavy fighting in northern Ethiopia, with clashes ongoing along several fronts. The United Nations has called for de-escalation of the fighting and for talks between the government and the recently formed alliance.
